UWR Gear 101

If you like the sport, the only thing you’d need apart from your swimsuits is a little courage to dive into UWR. The Current UWR provides everything necessary. If you aim to play regularly, we can help you pick the proper gear.

You wouldn’t need many things, but those are essential:

  • Fins, so you’d swim fast
  • Mask, so you’d see underwater
  • Snorkel, so you’d be able to follow the game from the surface
  • Protective caps, wristbands plus swimsuits in light and dark colors.

There are plastic, rubber and composite fins available. UWR.ZONE recommends Najade or Murena rubber fins.

Dual lens masks are required. According to our experience, best to choose from the Aqualung/Technisub lineup, although the most important is to pick a mask which fits your face the best, while has the smallest air volume. Securing the mask is done with a fixed strap usually.

There is a lot to discuss about fins and masks, snorkels are, however, a much simpler question, the best is the simplest one sold at Decathlon stores. Some snorkels have flexible elbows which easily get twisted and close up the airflow, or huge valves which can leave an imprint on your face when caught between you and an incoming opponent.
Polo caps need to have holes on the protective cover of the ears to enable the flow of the water and prevent directing pressure towards the auditory canal. Wristbands are to indicate team color, they have significant importance at matches, not so much at trainings.

A set of gear costs around 200 EUR.
We recommend avoiding low-quality products. Not only they make learning the basics a lot more difficult, but they were not designed to endure such conditions, therefore their use is likely forbidden. Masks with one-piece lenses and plastic fins with thin blades are prone to brake and could be danger to your or others this way!
You can rent gear, but if you got hooked up on the game we recommend buying your own. We provide huge discounts for team members!
Other benefits of sourcing your gear through us is that diving in this set is a lot more fun than in the ones you’ll find by the sea shore, plus these fins are perfect for training swimming too.
